Beyoncé is extremely talented, works extremely hard. Her art, visuals, music, lighting, hair, dancing and dancers– everything she does is impeccable. She is critical of minute details in everything she does and everything that is done to represent herself and her branding. She is constantly pushing the envelope and trying to move culture forward and reflect culture with immediacy. She has had a massive impact on culture as well. The fact that anyone can dismiss her as overhyped and unfairly emphasized is really really often rooted in anti-Blackness and misogyny. To suggest that what she does is frivolous or easy or silly is really just like blatant misogyny. Like, it’s just objectively absurd for anyone to suggest she doesn’t deserve all the accolades she has, and more. All you would have to do is watch one performance and understand. You don’t have to enjoy her or what she does (I don’t know why you wouldn’t but) she’s an incredible performer and artist and musician. When she adds her own creative ad-libbing to her music, even– it’s unmatched by her peers. She has an incredible ear and ability to anticipate hits, she has great creative vision and selection. It’s really just rubbing me as racialized misogyny to see the way people have minimized her efforts and suggested she was overhyped. She’s really doing the work we deserve from other equally famous artists and we aren’t getting it.
